On June 11th, 2020, Sony finally gave us an update on the highly anticipated followup to the wildly successful PlayStation 4.

After a flashback at PlayStation hits (and misses. Days Gone? Really?), we’re blasted with a HUGE UPDATE. Grand Theft Auto 5 IS COMING TO PS5. That’s right, Rockstar’s smash hit from 2013 that was released on the PlayStation 3 is going to be on the next console as well, with an in-game reward for people who still play GTA Online ($1 million dollars in game for every month until the PS5 launches).

Fortunately, they immediately launched into some new footage that gave me huge chills. It’s either DLC or the direct sequel to the incredible Spider-Man game from Insomniac studios starring Miles Morales. It’s coming Holiday 2020.

All the film we saw was exclusively captured on the new console, and naturally looked gorgeous, obviously. Here are a few of the games announced.

Games

• Spider-Man: Miles Morales (Holiday Season, 2020).
• Next up was the new Gran Turismo, which looked absolutely stunning, but what GT game hasn’t looked great? As far as accurate track racing goes, they’ve been king for a long, long time.
• Following that was a Ratchet and Clank trailer that looked wonderful but reminded me that they tried to make a movie and it was garbage. They followed up on the trailer by showing game-play that looked stunning. More impressively, it looks like the game is built around instantly hopping from planet to planet, a gaming feat that would’ve seemed like science fiction not so long ago.
• Square Enix teased something called Project Athia that looked, broken record, absolutely stunning. It will be a PS5 exclusive.
• We followed a cat around a world of robots in something called Stray, which I’m now willing to rob my neighbors for (in 2021).
• A time-looping story about a space traveler who repeatedly crashes and eventually dies on a strange, ever-changing planet called Returnal.
• A 3D performer starring Sackboy from Little Big Planet called Sackboy: A Big Adventure.
• A very colorful destruction derby/battle royale called Destruction Allstars.
• An adorable Pikmin-esque adventure game about freeing spirits called Kena: Bridge of Spirits.
• Oddworld: Soulstorm?
• Ghostwire: Tokyo, a supernatural action game set in Japan’s most famous city (2021).
• A universe traveling game, Jett: The Far Shore (Holiday 2020).
• Godfall (Holiday 2020).
• A trippy, very colorful game called Solar Ash (2021).
• Hitman III (January, 2021).
• Astro’s playroom, a cute little game about the PlayStation VR mascot.
• A cartoony monster hunting game called Little Devil Inside that I’m 100% buying on day one.
• NBA 2k21 (fFll 2020).
• Bugsnax (Holiday 2020).
• Demon’s Souls Remaster.
• Deathloop.
• Resident Evil VIII
• Pragamata (2022)
• A sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn! Horizon: Forbidden West.

It showed us what looked like the start-up screen from the next game early on, but then jumped back into video game announcements. Consistently, throughout the presentation, it would cut to this white room, where the shapes would move around and change color, teasing the appearance of the console.

And then, finally, the reveal. I don’t mind the look. It kinda resembles a PC tower to me, and my only real complaint is that I won’t be able to rest it on it’s side. But that’s just a silly gripe, and not something that’s actually a problem.
