I love rookies.
Here’s the thing about NFL players, and it’s a part of the business I actually don’t like very much. For the most part, and I mean the vast majority, of players, you know whether or not they’re going to be good within the first couple of years of their careers. You could tell by probably about the end of his sophomore season, that this whole Sam Darnold thing wasn’t going to work with the Jets. Conversely, most football fans knew immediately that this Lamar Jackson guy could play. But here’s the thing, right? When you’re looking at rookies, there are endless possibilities, and it’s just awesome.
In my opinion, the 2022 NFL Draft class wasn’t all that talented when it came to elite prospects, but it certainly was deep, even throughout the later rounds. That gives us about 200, give or take a few, viable rookies to pick and choose from. I can’t say that I can tell the future, but I’ve watched a ton of tape on plenty of these guys, and I think I have a pretty good grasp on who should be good at the NFL level. At the very least, I want to take some kind of educated guess for each and every position. This does not guarantee career success, but simply who will be the best right off the bat, ready and raring to go.
